LAGOS, April 10, 2025 — The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said yesterday that the Federal Government will soon start a N300 billion Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund. This fund is to help young graduates start their own businesses and follow their dreams of working for themselves.
The Minister said this when he gave a lecture at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, for their 28th convocation ceremony. He said every graduate can get at least N10 million from this fund. If they need more, the government can still give them something higher.
Dr. Alausa explained that this plan is part of what President Bola Tinubu’s administration is doing to change Nigeria from a country that depends on resources to a country that depends on knowledge. The lecture he gave had the title, ‘Patriotism, Citizenship and National Ownership: The Imperative of Collective Responsibility for Nigeria’s Future’. It was one of the events LASU held for their convocation.
The Minister said, “If we look at patriotism, citizenship, and national ownership, one thing joins them together—education. Patriotism is not just to like the flag or anthem. It means to work hard for the country and bring people together even if we are different. Citizenship means to obey the law, do your duty, stay loyal to Nigeria, and protect what belongs to us. National ownership means to guard our resources and use them well for everybody.”
He added that, “Education is the key to all this. This government wants to make sure everybody can go to school. We are focusing on technical training, vocational skills, and entrepreneurship. We will support the girl child well and make sure our education system is good so our young people will love Nigeria, be good citizens, and use our resources well.”
Alausa also said plenty of changes are happening in education. He mentioned the student loan scheme that has shared more than N45 billion to students already.
The Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, also spoke at the event. She said, “Nigeria is not just land we see on the map. Nigeria is our hope that our heroes from the past built. We need to bring back the spirit of patriotism, citizenship, and ownership inside everybody. The future is for all of us, not just some people.”
The Chairman of the event, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said education is the answer to many problems that face people. He told everybody to support the government’s plan for education.
This N300 billion fund news is giving hope to many graduates who are looking for a way to start their own businesses. They are waiting to see how it will work and when it will start.
