The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Katsina State has extended the service term of 11 corps members due to various infractions committed during their service year. This announcement came from State Coordinator Ibrahim Sa’idu during the Passing-out Parade for the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members, held in Katsina on March 27, 2025.
Speaking through Allen Charles Chisome, Assistant Director of Human Resource Management, Sa’idu explained that the extensions were imposed in line with NYSC by-laws. The affected group includes three female and eight male corps members, each disciplined for different offenses. While specific details of the violations were not disclosed, the measures reflect the scheme’s commitment to upholding its standards.
In contrast, Sa’idu praised the 859 corps members who completed their service without disciplinary issues, encouraging them to represent the NYSC positively in their future endeavors. He also urged them to make use of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training received during orientation to pursue self-reliance.
The coordinator expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Government for its support, highlighting the hospitality and security provided to corps members throughout their service. The low-key ceremony also celebrated three standout performers—Adanu Theresa Onyeche (KT/24A/1937), Sunday Bose Aladi (KT/24A/2125), and Abdul Fatai Usman Isyaka (KT/24A/2860)—who received state awards for their exceptional contributions.
A somber moment marked the event as attendees observed a minute of silence for a corps member who passed away during the service year, though further details were not provided. This passing-out parade underscored both the rewards of dedication and the consequences of breaching NYSC regulations.
